Varsity Girls Swimming and Diving kicks off season

The Owego Varsity Swimming and Diving team kicked off practice today with 23 girls.

Coach Westervelt commented on the season outlook – “We are bringing back quite a few strong swimmers from last season, and we added a few new faces to the team that will be big contributors down the road.”

Key returnees for the Indains, Chloe Collins on the diving board, Devon McFadden – State Finalist, and multiple time Section IV champion, Jamie Zielinski, Sam Kuchinski, Chelsea Angulas, and Marissa Scott – State qualifiers and multiple time Section IV champions.

Coach Westervelt – “Our focus is not on the individual, it’s on the team.  Every member of our team, rookie or senior, is an important part of what we do. Championships are not one as an individual, they are won as a team.”

This season looks promising for the Girls Varsity Swimming and Diving Team. “Everyone is excited and looking forward to another season.”  said Coach Katchuk – Indians assistant coach.

The girls head out of town for a three day training trip next week.  They will be attending SUNY Cortland’s outdoor education facility in Raquette Lake.
