Tommy West & Matt Wieckhorst Have Impressive Performances

Tommy West and Matt Wieckhorst, #1 and #2 singles players on the OFA Boys Tennis team, played very well and recorded impressive victories over the reigning Section 4, Class B champions from Norwich.  West, a senior and three time All STAC Conference All-Star, dominated played from the early stages, and battled through a windy afternoon to a 6-2, 6-1 victory.  Wieckhorst, on the other hand, got off to a slow start, dropping the first set before picking up his play and winning the second and third sets over a Norwich player who had not lost a league match over the past 14 months.  Behind a strategy of being aggressive up at net when he had the wind behind him, Wieckhorst was able to pull out several close games and frustrate his opponent.  Both players remain undefeated on the season, and will be in action again on Wednesday afternoon out at Chenango Forks.

OFA Boys Tennis Loses Opener

For the first time in eleven years, the OFA Boys Tennis team were not able to start the season off with a team victory.  OFA was topped by a score of 5-2 against the SV Sabers, and SV dominated the three doubles matches to seal the victory.  Leading the way for the Indians were their top two singles players, Tommy West and Matt Wieckhorst.  Both were able to win straight set singles matches, and Tommy has now won 18 of his last 20 singles matches in league play, dating back to 2011.  Next up for the Indians are two divisional match ups against Seton and Johnson City on Wednesday and Friday of this week, both at Owego Free Academy.
