The Owego Lady Indians Girls Basketball team wrapped up their regular season Thursday evening with their eighth straight victory. They defeated division foe SV by a score of 49-35. The victory gives the ladies their 12th win and clinches the STAC Central Division Title, and moves the Indians on to the STAC League Play-Offs next week. Despite a dreadful first half of shooting by Owego (7-32 from the floor), they did a great job on the defensive end and held a 18-15 halftime advantage. In the third quarter, Emily Merrill led the Owego charge with 6 points and 8 rebounds that quarter as the Indians increased the lead to double digits heading into the fourth. Jill Silvanic followed Merrill’s lead by erupting for 8 of her 11 points early in the fourth quarter, as Owego cruised home to the finish line. Other solid individual contributions came from Olivia Bishop (6 rebounds, 3 assists, 3 steals), Rachel Merrill (15 points, 3 blocks), Caitlin Watson (5 points, 3 rebounds), and Ciarra Bodnar (3 assists). Owego will now play STAC powerhouse Horseheads on Wednesday, 2/13, at home on the OFA Campus at 7:00 PM.
